Content links do help and you are so right about the crappy links that people would like to have you add when you get some good ratings. Links that are relative are a little harder to come by but doable if you look around at what site links you would like to have and contact those folks. I pick out sites that Google picks for me. I don't care for Adsense but it is useful in helping you find sites that Google thinks is relative to yours. Those folks are paying for links so they might be just fine with a permanent and free link and you get one back to use on a different site so it is reciprocal but not. I wouldn't expect that this is a rapidfire sure win method but it has worked nicely for my sites over time.
