Yesterday I received a letter from a customer, a real world paper letter in our PO Box.

It was an angry letter about a host of problems with a particular product.

The letter closed with “What are we suppose to do ??? You will have to admit this is a REAL problem…. We would appreciate an e-mail or phone call on this.. Thank You.” followed by contact information and an order ID.

As soon as I got back from the PO I looked up the order. There it was, but oddly, it was for a completely different product than what the letter was complaining about.

I thought that maybe the customer had placed more than one order with us and sent the wrong ID by mistake. I queried the database and found just the one order.

I called the customer and explained that we hadn’t sold him the product he was having so many problems with and he admitted that was possible. We talked a little more and it turns out it wasn’t even a brand we carried. Long story short, he said he might just return the piece of junk to wherever he got it from (once he figured out where that was) and come buy a better one from us.

“Sounds good!” I said.  :)
